Pachia Ammos Beach, Paleochora

Pachia Ammos beach is one of the two central sandy beaches of Paleochora. It is named after its white, thick sand (“Pachia Ammos” means “thick sand”), which is a rare sight in this area. Pachia Ammos beach is one kilometer long and wide enough. This makes it less crowded, even during the high season. It is the most organized beach in the area, with sun beds, parasols, showers, water sports, lifeguards on duty during the summer season, and it generally has all the facilities you would expect from a well-organized beach minus the crowds of Chania’s northern region.

The shallow, crystal clear waters, awarded with the Blue Flag every year, are ideal for families with young children. Within walking distance, there are several cafes and taverns, which will enrich your travel experience, relaxingly. When strong west or southwest winds blow in the area, there may be large waves. In this case, you may visit the Chalikia or Votsala beach, as it faces the east. Also note that a part on the edge of the beach is popular for nudists.
